Cosmetic dentistry is the field of dentistry dedicated to the art and science of enhancing a person's smile, overall appearance, and oral health and is one of the fastest growing areas in dentistry.

Your treatment plan will be highly individualized, depending on a number of variables including:  the condition of your teeth, the extent of the treatment necessary (on a tooth by tooth basis), the type of cosmetic procedures chosen and whether any sedation is requested.

Cosmetic dental techniques have advanced dramatically over the last decade. The quality of materials like porcelains and composite resins has improved, giving a more life-like appearance.  Now, porcelain restorations that reflect the translucence of natural teeth with layer upon layer of pearly white color.  And, where once gum tissue surgery and contouring was performed by traditional surgery with surgical scalpels, lasers are more readily used.

Factors To Consider when Selecting a Cosmetic Dentist

What factors should you consider when making the decision to place your trust in a particular cosmetic dentist?  How do you decide who will use the right sculpting materials and artistic techniques to achieve the smile of your life?

We Choose Dr. Kyle Roth to perform cosmetic dentistry for our patients.

To Select a Cosmetic Dentist We Recommend The Following Criteria:

First And Foremost: Results

Results:  How truthful are the pictures?  Is the lighting the same on before and after pictures? Are they sample pictures or the dentist’s own cases?  How many treatments did it take to get from before to stunning?  Are the faces held in the same posture in the before and after or is there a sad look before and a happy look after?

Here are Dr. Kyle Roth’s results from a sampling of his many happy patients.   Click to Dr. Roth's Smile Gallery

Third:  Know Your Options:  What are the Options in Cosmetic Dentistry

Here are the general techniques used in cosmetic dentistry. Each is discussed when creating a treatment plan, and it is the artistry of the dentist who determines which techniques will best treat the issues in an individual case.

Crowns and Bridges
Crowns are generally used when the damage or decay is so extensive that filling materials cannot return the tooth to natural health and function. When tooth loss occurs, a bridge may be used or the use of dental implants is an option.

A crown is a restoration that covers a tooth in order to strengthen the tooth and restore it to its normal shape and size. A crown may be placed to support a large filling when there is little remaining tooth structure; attach a bridge; protect weak teeth from fracturing or to restore fractured teeth. To determine the material to be used for a crown, Dr. Roth will consider factors such as tooth location, position of the gum tissue, tooth function and tooth shade.

A fixed bridge is used to replace missing teeth. A bridge can help to create a normal bite; prevent stress on the dental ridge; prevent the drifting and tilt of adjacent teeth; inhibit decay in abnormal areas and to slow the onset of periodontal disease.

Bonding and Veneers
Veneers can improve your smile. They may be used to improve color and shape, close spaces between teeth, lengthen small or misshaped teeth or whiten stained or dark teeth. Bonding is tooth-colored material and can be used to repair minor chips or spaces in between teeth.

Bonding
Bonding is a process in which tooth-colored composite resin is applied to tooth surfaces, sculpted into shape, hardened and polished to match surrounding teeth. Bonding can close gaps; repair chipped or fractured teeth and disguise discolored teeth. In many cases, bonding is a reversible process, involving little or no tooth reduction. With good oral hygiene and slight maintenance, the newest bonding materials can last many years. Bonding generally requires one office visit and no anesthetic. Veneers are thin, customized layers of tooth-colored porcelain or resin which are bonded directly to the teeth for maximum esthetics and minimum tooth reduction. Veneers are durable, stain resistant and natural looking. They conceal broken, chipped, discolored, crooked and misshapen teeth. Veneers can also be used to eliminate gaps between teeth. They are exceptionally strong, lasting a very long time with minimum maintenance. Most veneering procedures require two office visits.
