Breast Augmentation
With Implants
Breast augmentation, also referred to as augmentation mammaplasty and breast enlargement, is a surgical procedure which uses breast implants to improve the look and fullness of the breasts while also increasing the cup size. Breast implants can increase the size of the breasts to make them more proportionate to the rest of the body or to create a more curvaceous figure.
There are many reasons why women may consider this procedure. Pregnancy, nursing or weight loss may result in decreased breast size. For other women, their breasts may be uneven or underdeveloped. And some women simply like the look of larger breasts and want to increase their original breast size. Breast augmentation can help to fill out the figure while also increasing a woman’s confidence in her appearance.
During the consultation, Doctor Au will discuss your goals and help you to choose the appropriate incision, placement, implant size and implant type. Depending upon the size of the implant, breast augmentation can result in anywhere from a very noticeable change to a more subtle reshaping.
During the breast augmentation procedure, a soft, flexible implant is inserted through a small incision and the implant is then filled with a saline, or diluted salt water, solution. There is a true artistry to the breast augmentation procedure which is seen as Dr. Au adjusts the implant in order to achieve a natural shape. We use only saline-filled silicone implants in our clinic. There are three types of saline implants, including pre-filled implants, implants which may be adjusted during surgery, and implants which may be adjusted during and after surgery. Dr. Au will help you to determine the best implant to achieve your goals during your consultation.
Breast augmentation is performed as an outpatient procedure in our in-office surgical suite. Twilight anesthesia which includes intravenous sedation if most often used. Though breast implants are designed to last, most patients will eventually need to have them replaced.
Recovery after breast augmentation takes one to two weeks for most women. Vigorous physical activity will need to be postponed for several weeks. Specific risks associated with your procedure should be discussed with Dr. Au, and it’s important that you are aware of and realistic about all possible outcomes. We encourage you to discuss any health conditions and all body contouring concerns that you may have during your consultation with Dr. Au. Dramatic, lasting and even astonishing improvement can be made to the body in a relatively short period of time. We strive to provide you with honest, insightful advice about what you can and should expect and look forward to helping you achieve the face and body you’ve always wanted. |
