Female Breast Reduction Surgery / Mammaplasty
Breast reduction surgery, also known as mammaplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure designed for women whose breasts are too large in proportion to their body. The procedure can provide women with a trimmer yet still curvaceous figure. By reducing the size of large breasts, pressure on the back and shoulder muscles is decreased. As such, many patients experience a relief from back pain as well as skin rashes and other discomforts associated with large breasts. Breast reduction surgery can improve a woman’s overall appearance and make the figure appear more balanced. Many women also find it easier to find flattering clothing and lingerie after surgery.
Breast reduction surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure and takes two or more hours to complete. An incision is made below the nipple and excess tissue is removed. The breasts are then lifted to a more natural position and the nipples are usually repositioned to accommodate the new breast shape. Newer techniques can help to minimize damage to the milk ducts for women who are considering breastfeeding after surgery. Recovery takes between one to three weeks, though strenuous physical activities will need to be postponed for about six weeks.
