Abdominoplasty Tummy Tuck
Abdominal fat can be very stubborn, proving resistant to even the best attempts at exercise and weight loss. In many cases, a complete or partial abdominoplasty, more commonly known as a tummy tuck and mini tummy tuck, can provide the solution. Abdominoplasty involves the removal of excess abdominal fat and skin and the tightening of stomach muscles. A partial abdominoplasty, or mini tummy tuck, involves the same process but is limited to the lower portion of the abdomen, or the area below the navel. While a tummy tuck may be performed on its own, it is often combined with other procedures like liposuction of the arms or thighs. Abdominoplasty can provide a trimmer midsection and a more youthful-looking figure.
A complete tummy tuck typically takes between two and four hours to perform while a mini tummy tuck usually requires just one to two hours. The incision for a full tummy tuck is longer than the incision for a mini tuck. Once the incision is made, the muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened, improving the waistline. The skin is then pulled back into place with the excess removed and the navel is repositioned if necessary. Though recovery times will vary, most patients are able to return to the majority of their normal activities within two to four weeks. Abdominoplasty can resculpt the waistline and firm up the tummy, and results can be permanent provided patients exercise and follow a sensible diet.
