As we age, our eyes change and can potentially add years to your appearance. Blepharoplasty, commonly called the “eyelid lift,” is a surgery designed to rejuvenate the eye area. Compared to non-surgical methods, eyelid lifts yield long-lasting results. But like any surgery, taking the necessary recovery time is crucial. If you’re curious about recovery after an eyelid lift, we’ve got you covered.

What Can I Expect Immediately After Surgery?

Recovery after an eyelid lift is relatively straightforward compared to other surgeries. With over 26 years’ experience in the field, Dr. Stein has perfected his technique, ensuring minimal swelling and bruising. Because every procedure is unique to the patient, no two recoveries are exactly alike. You’ll receive a recovery and aftercare plan specific to your needs upon completion of the surgery.

What’s Recovery Like?

Like any surgery, you’ll need to take some time off of work and lay low – this will ensure minimal strain on the face, giving the muscles and skin time to heal directly after the procedure. You may be given instructions on how to care for your eyes and may be given prescriptions to keep pain levels to a minimum. Adhering to aftercare instructions is crucial to yielding the best results possible.

It’s important to listen to your body during this time – in general, you should refrain from strenuous activities for a few weeks until Dr. Stein gives you the clear.

When Will I Be Ready For Social Activities?

Depending on the activity, you may be able to participate in social functions. Exercise is out for the first few weeks. We also advise staying out of the sun while in recovery, so you may have to postpone any outdoor activities. Additionally, you’ll want to have your sunglasses at the ready while running errands. You’ll be ready to go public 10-14 days after surgery, but healing will continue for the first few months.

When Can I Return To Work?

Many of our patients can return to work anywhere from 5-7 days, but this largely depends on how dramatic your surgery was, the nature of your work, and the areas operated on. Generally, a lower eyelid lift will require more downtime than an upper eyelid lift. If you are undergoing multiple procedures, you may require more downtime as well. To get a better idea of when you can return to work, ask our team during your consultation.

Can I Combine Procedures To Save On Recovery Time?

If you’re interested in achieving dramatic results that can’t be achieved by blepharoplasty alone, you may be able to undergo multiple procedures in the same session. Among the more popular include facelifts, brow lifts and laser resurfacing for tighter, smoother skin around the eyes. In addition to getting great results, you’ll be able to save yourself some recovery time. During your initial consultation, ask Dr. Stein and our staff to see if you’re a good candidate for multiple procedures.

“I had the drooping eyelids that come along with the aging process and it made me self conscious to the point I stopped wearing eye shadows so I wouldn’t draw attention to my eyes. I did my research, visited two different surgeons and decided on Stein Plastic Surgery. The staff is wonderful and Dr. Stein amazing. I am beyond thrilled with my results. Every step of the way Dr. Stein made sure to let me know exactly what to expect which elevates concerns. I had my eye lids done along with a brow lift and I am so thrilled with the results. Thank you for your professionalism and the fantastic work you do!”
