Upper eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, improves the appearance of the upper eyelid area to make eyes look brighter, more alert, and more youthful. Dr. Stein performs this procedure on its own or with other procedures, including lower eyelid surgery, as part of a comprehensive rejuvenation.

What is Upper Eyelid Surgery?

Upper eyelid surgery, often called an upper eyelid lift, uses a small incision hidden in the crease of the eyelid to remove loose skin. Just as important as removing loose skin, Dr. Stein will remove or reposition fat pads that have sagged from their proper position. He will also tighten the muscles controlling the eyelid, helping to maintain an alert, awake expression instead of looking tired or even angry. He performs upper eyelid surgery under IV anesthesia to maintain your comfort without the risks of general anesthesia.

What Can Upper Eyelid Surgery Treat?

Upper eyelid surgery can treat almost every issue people have with the appearance of the upper eyelid, including:

  • Loose or drooping skin
  • Wrinkles and creases in the eyelid area
  • Uneven distribution of fat pads
  • Loosened upper eyelid muscles
  • Accumulation of fat
  • Interference with peripheral vision

Some people do not even realize that their eyelids have drooped far enough to affect their peripheral vision until their consultation.

How Much Does Upper Eyelid Surgery Cost?

Costs for surgical procedures vary across a wide range due to your location, your provider, and other factors. Prices do not include fees such as anesthesia, medications, or other expenses. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists the average cost of upper eyelid surgery at $4120. Dr. Stein will provide you with a more accurate estimate when he goes over the details of the procedure.

What Results Will I See From Upper Eyelid Surgery?

You will see a more lifted upper eyelid with fewer wrinkles and no more drooping skin. The appearance of uneven or bulging fat has been removed. Results can take a few weeks to become fully visible since you may have some swelling, but you should be able to appreciate the changes within a few days.

What is Recovery Like From Upper Eyelid Surgery?

You should be able to resume general activities within a few days. Most people go back to work within a week. More vigorous activities should wait at least two weeks or until Dr. Stein gives his approval. Be sure to follow the customized recovery plan that Dr. Stein will develop for you after your procedure.

Am I a Good Candidate for Upper Eyelid Surgery?

If you have loose, drooping skin and fat in the upper eyelid area, you may be a good candidate for upper eyelid surgery. Ideal candidates are in good health, do not smoke, and have reasonable expectations about their results.

“I was referred to Dr Stine by an anesthetist and I’m so happy with the process and results. Dr. Stine was so responsive and supportive post op answering if this or that was normal. I feel the results are natural and becoming.” *
