Ears contribute a lot to a person’s appearance. Sometimes it’s not a positive one, either. We all know someone who was teased as a child about their ears being too big, too disproportionate, or deformed. Otoplasty, or ear surgery, can be a big help and a bigger confidence booster.
If you or someone in your family has insecurities about their appearance that involve the ears, it’s important to know about options that can help alleviate them of their troubles and anxieties. Let’s take a look.
What’s The Procedure Like?
Commonly referred to as “ear pinning,” otoplasty can consist of attaching the backs of ears closer to the head, making them look smaller, and/or more symmetrical. There are a lot of things that can be done during otoplasty, including reshaping.
Because ears form rather quickly, it is recommended that the procedure be done earlier on in life while the cartilage is relatively soft. As a result, even children can get this procedure as long as they meet certain qualifications.
What Can Otoplasty Treat?
Otoplasty can treat a number of issues involving ear cartilage. At Stein Plastic Surgery, we can do otoplasty for many reasons and can tailor the procedure to the candidate and their individual needs. Otoplasty can be done to treat the following conditions:
- Ears that stick out too far from the head
- Disproportionally Large Ears
- Dissatisfaction with Previous Surgeries
- Minor Deformities
If any of these issues resonate with you or your child, you might consider otoplasty as an option. At Stein Plastic Surgery, we’re happy to help you look at options and help you through the process.
