What Chemical Peels Can Do for You
Chemical peels improve the appearance of facial skin by removing the damaged outer layers of skin and stimulating production of new skin cells. Chemical peels can reduce the appearance of:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven skin pigmentation
- Sun damage
- Facial blemishes or acne scarring
Peels come in a variety of strengths and can treat specific areas of the face, but the majority of Dr. Stein’s patients treat the whole face for best results.
Your Consultation with Dr. Stein
When considering a chemical peel, it’s important to choose a highly skilled doctor who understands that each patient requires a customized approach. In your consultation, Dr. Stein will discuss your goals and examine your skin to help you decide which peel is right for you. He specializes in a variety of chemical peels, including:
- Jessner Peel – a light to medium depth peel that is suitable for all skin types. Dr. Stein uses it to treat discoloration, fine lines and sun damage. It is also particularly effective for patients with acne because it tends to decrease oil production and open clogged pores.
- TCA Peel – a medium depth peel that is very effective on most skin types. Dr. Stein uses it to improve the skin’s texture and tone and eliminate fine to moderate wrinkles. It may also improve the appearance of blotches and dark circles under the eyes.
- Phenol Peels – a deep peel that requires extensive specialized training to perform properly Primarily, Dr. Stein uses it to treat coarse wrinkles and more significantly aged skin, but it also improves brown spots and uneven pigmentation. Dr. Stein specializes in this highly effective peel, and has trained with leading experts to refine his skills in this area.

Jessner and TCA peels are performed in the office and require no anesthetic, although some patients prefer to take pain medication to help tolerate the discomfort. Phenol peels are performed at our surgical center under heavy sedation.

Occasionally, Dr. Stein combines a chemical peel with laser resurfacing for different areas of the face depending on the patient’s individual needs. Chemical peels are not a substitute for a facelift or brow lift, but many of our patients add a peel to these procedures to maximize facial rejuvenation.
