How Does Open Rhinoplasty Work?
An open (or external) rhinoplasty is typically done on an outpatient basis under IV sedation. Dr. Stein uses his advances surgical skills as a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon to create incisions within the natural creases of your skin. These incisions allow for more dramatic changes with minimal pain, scarring, and social downtime.
Depending on the outcome you’d like to achieve, your procedure may take anywhere from 1-2 hours. After a short observation period, you’ll be able to head home for a more comfortable recovery.
Am I a Good Candidate For Open Rhinoplasty?
The open rhinoplasty technique is primarily used for patients that want significant re-shaping with consistently superior result. Patients that would like to correct minor concerns may be able to benefit from closed surgical methods. Men and women considering rhinoplasties should be in otherwise good general health. Non-smokers typically have the best outcome from surgery.

What Results Will I See?
Initial results can be seen right away. As any post-surgical swelling subsides, you’ll be able to see continued improvement. Most patients are pleased with the ultimate outcome of their procedure around week two. However, it can take several months and up to a year for your nose to fully ‘settle’ into its final position. Open rhinoplasties are generally a one-time procedure and do not need to be repeated to maintain an optimal outcome.
