Have you considered having a procedure to reshape, resize, or alter your nose? Depending on your desired changes, Dr. Stein may recommend an open rhinoplasty. This type of rhinoplasty gives the surgeon more access to the supporting structures of your nose.

What is an Open Rhinoplasty?

Open rhinoplasty is a surgical technique that gives the surgeon direct access to the nasal structures. Dr. Stein performs the procedure by making a small incision on the columella, the skin between the nostrils. This approach provides better visualization and control of the nasal structures, allowing Dr. Stein to make more precise and accurate changes to your nose.

*Individual Results May Vary

How is Open Rhinoplasty Performed?

Open rhinoplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia. It can take anywhere from 1-4 hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure. Here is a step-by-step breakdown of the open rhinoplasty procedure:

  1. A small incision is made on the columella, the skin that separates the nostrils.
  2. Dr. Stein gently lifts the skin to expose the underlying nasal structures.
  3. Dr. Stein can now make precise changes to the cartilage and bone of the nose.
  4. Once the desired changes have been made, Dr. Stein repositions the skin and closes the incision with sutures.

Dr. Stein may choose an open rhinoplasty for your procedure if you want to see significant changes in your nose’s shape, size, or symmetry. These changes often require reshaping the nasal structures. Dr. Stein may perform a closed rhinoplasty for procedures that require less reshaping.

What Can Open Rhinoplasty Treat?

Dr. Stein uses open rhinoplasty for nose surgeries that require access to the nasal cartilage and other structures. Open rhinoplasty is used to:

  • Reduce or remove a hump on the bridge of the nose
  • Modify the shape and size of the nasal tip
  • Correct breathing problems by straightening a deviated septum
  • Reshape nasal bones and cartilage to create a straighter nose
  • Reduce the width of the nose by altering the nasal bones and cartilage

Dr. Stein will assess your nose and determine the procedure he will use to achieve your desired results. Many rhinoplasties can be performed with closed rhinoplasty, so you should consult a board-certified plastic surgeon before considering any procedure.

What is Recovery Like After Open Rhinoplasty?

You can expect some swelling and bruising after your procedure. These effects will begin to fade within about a week. Many people return to work after seven to ten days. However, you may wish to avoid social events for at least two weeks to allow the bruising time to fade completely. Residual swelling can take several months to resolve completely.

Am I a Good Candidate for Open Rhinoplasty?

Only Dr. Stein can determine whether open rhinoplasty will help you achieve your goals. Good candidates for this procedure are in good health and have reasonable expectations. Ideal candidates have a clear vision of the results they want to achieve. You should also be prepared for the required recovery time and rest and recover as instructed.

Dr. Stein provided excellent outcomes. The resulted look natural and are consistent with what was explained before the surgery. I recommend Dr. Stein to everyone.
