You may be bothered by your nose for many reasons. Rhinoplasty can address aesthetic issues with your nose’s size, symmetry, or shape. Septoplasty, on the other hand, addresses functional issues like a deviated septum. Both procedures can improve your quality of life, whether by correcting a cosmetic or functional concern.

What is a Rhinoplasty or Nose Surgery?

Rhinoplasty, also called nose surgery or a “nose job,” is one of the most popular types of facial plastic surgery. Dr. Stein performs numerous rhinoplasties every year and specializes in extraordinary results. Rhinoplasty can correct issues such as an asymmetrical, wide, or crooked nose or one with a bump.

What is the Difference Between a Septoplasty and a Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is one form of nose surgery. Septoplasty is another form that corrections functional problems that affect your breathing. These procedures are performed in a similar way, but they address different issues. Dr. Stein can correct functional problems during a rhinoplasty if needed.

A septoplasty addresses the tissue between the two nostrils. This divider, the septum, can become pushed to one side or deviated. A deviated septum, which can result from a nose injury, can hinder your breathing. It can also treat conditions like nasal polyps or chronic sinusitis. Rhinoplasty and septoplasty are performed using similar incisions and surgical procedures.

Many people wonder if insurance covers septoplasty since it addresses functional issues. Stein Plastic Surgery does not accept insurance. However, we can assist you with submitting the necessary paperwork regarding your procedure. Many insurance companies will not cover the procedure or will require extensive documentation of other treatments you have tried.

We strongly recommend working with your insurance company prior to your procedure to determine possible coverage. If your insurance will not cover a septoplasty, we offer financing to assist you in receiving care. Rhinoplasty is an aesthetic procedure and is not covered by insurance.

What is Recovery Like After Rhinoplasty or Septoplasty?

Your recovery process will depend on the details of your procedure. However, most people will experience bruising and swelling after nose surgery. You may have a splint in place to support your nose, and Dr. Stein will remove this at a follow-up visit. Most people can return to work and most other activities within a week. You will see results as the swelling improves, but your nose may take up to a year to achieve its final appearance.

Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty or Septoplasty?

Most healthy adults with concerns about their noses make good candidates. Ideal candidates have reasonable expectations and goals. Candidates for septoplasty who hope to be reimbursed by insurance should ensure they fit their insurance company’s criteria for coverage. You may not be a good candidate if you have certain health problems or are pregnant.

For 10+ years I had hated my nose and finally got the courage to seek out consultations with a few surgeons in the Triangle. I felt so at ease with Dr. Stein’s experience and demonstrated history of amazing results. I am 6 weeks post op and blown away. I feel more beautiful now in my everyday life than I did on my wedding day. My breathing was maintained at 100% despite significant cosmetic changes. I wish I had done this sooner, even the recovery wasn’t nearly as bad as I anticipated. You will not be disappointed with Dr. Stein and his amazing staff (Nurse May is particularly fantastic). Dr. Stein is a miracle worker and without question the #1 person to see in the Triangle.
