While it’s rare to have a flawless nose, some features that give your nose character can create insecurity and reduce confidence. Dr. Adam Stein specializes in facial plastic surgery with particular skill and experience in rhinoplasties. He’s helped thousands of patients sculpt their noses for a more aesthetically pleasing balance.

How Does Rhinoplasty Work?

There are several techniques employed during a rhinoplasty (or nose job) procedure, making it a versatile treatment for achieving your aesthetic goals. During a closed rhinoplasty, Dr. Stein keeps the incisions inside the nostrils, minimizing scarring. This does limit his access to some of the nose’s structures, so this technique is recommended only for patients seeking small or subtle corrections to specific features. The much more common open rhinoplasty involves an incision across the columella, the skin between the nostrils. This makes it possible for Dr. Stein to carefully manipulate the tissues to access the nose’s bone, cartilage, and skin to make corrections.

During the procedure, Dr. Stein may narrow or widen the nose, remove a dorsal hump on the bridge, repair an injury to the bone or cartilage, repair a deviated septum, sculpt the nose’s tip, or narrow or widen the nostrils. Dr. Stein is particularly experienced in performing ethnic rhinoplasties, achieving your cosmetic goals without compromising your ethnic identity.

Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

When the nose, such a central feature, is out of balance, it can give the illusion of asymmetry to your whole face. If the shape of your nose brings you distress, Dr. Stein can help sculpt an improved shape and restore your confidence. He’s also repaired the damage done by previous nose jobs for hundreds of patients with a revision rhinoplasty. A consultation with Dr. Stein is a great place to learn more about how he can help you love your nose.

What is Rhinoplasty Like?

A rhinoplasty is a quick procedure, taking an average of 1.5-3 hours to complete. You’ll be placed under IV sedation with local anesthesia, so you’re comfortable, and Dr. Stein will perform your rhinoplasty in our surgical suite with cutting-edge technology. Once your procedure is complete, you’ll likely have a splint and bandages across the top of your nose and possibly some gauze packing inside the nostrils. You’ll be able to return home the same day as your procedure.

How Long is Recovery from Rhinoplasty?

Because swelling in the nose’s soft tissues tends to reduce slower than for other body parts, it may take a few weeks to months to subside. However, your initial recovery won’t take nearly that long.

Most patients experience some pain in the first week. The swelling and bruising may appear quite dramatic, but most of it should subside in the first week or two. Tenderness across your nose and cheeks is normal for up to 2 weeks. Dr. Stein will remove any packing and stitches in the first follow-up appointment unless the stitches are the type that dissolves on their own.

After the initial 1-2 week healing period, you’ll begin to feel like yourself again, returning to work or school. Be sure to follow all post-op instructions and limit exercise until Dr. Stein advises otherwise. You may need to avoid activities with a high chance of jostling your nose, such as contact sports, for weeks or even a few months.

What Results Can I Expect after Rhinoplasty?

Your new nose shape will begin to emerge around 2-3 weeks after your rhinoplasty as the swelling subsides. While it may take up to a year for your results to be final, most patients find their nose is more balanced and appealing after the first month. At Stein Plastic Surgery, we can alleviate your insecurity, so the first thing people notice about you isn’t your nose.

“I was referred to Dr Stine by an anesthetist and I’m so happy with the process and results. Dr. Stine was so responsive and supportive post op answering if this or that was normal. I feel the results are natural and becoming.” *
